Unable to access the file esl.cfg: This might be because esl.cfg is not in the root directory of C:. Copy the file C:\ESL\ESL.CFG to C:\ESL.
Unable to access NOTEPAD: This might be because the third line of c:\esl.cfg is incorrect. Find the exact path for NOTEPAD.EXE and put that in.
Unable to change font size in NOTEPAD: I suggest that you use MSWord instead. See the next link.
You want to use MSWord instead of Notepad:
Replace the third line of esl.cfg with the path name for Winword.exe.
For example,
C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE\WINWORD.EXE
You get the message "you must be in Windows to access NOTEPAD":
This means that you are using ESL in purely DOS mode and hence must use
a DOS text editor and the lpr program to print files. The easiest
thing to do is to use ESLWIN within Windows and select ESTIMATE,
INTERACTIVE, and TEXT-BOOK DATA.
If, however, you wish to use ESL in DOS mode, follow the steps below.
The ESL Update link has a text editor called RAMUEDIT.EXE and a
three-page documentation called RAMUEDIT.txt. Download these into the
C:\ESL directory, print RAMUEDIT.txt, and read how to use it. If you
want to use that, you should change the third line in C:\ESL.CFG to
C:\ESL\ramuedit.exe. When you have finished a session, use the DOS
command
lpr user\out.txt > lpt1
where lpr is the line printer program supplied with the disk, out.txt
is the name of the file you want to print, and lpt1 refers to the
printer.
