LAB FEE

This class will have a $40 lab fee.  We will collect this lab fee from students after the official drop date for the course. The professor will also pay a lab fee, although he won't earn anything from the pool.

The purpose of the lab fee is to provide incentives to students during our classroom demonstrations.  Here is how it works:

In occassional classes we will conduct an experiment in class.  You will be the "subjects" in the experiment.  In each class you will earn points.  At the end of the quarter, the class assistant, Cindy, will tally the total number of points across students.  Then we determine the value of a point as this:

value per point =  (total lab fees collected)/(total points earned by everyone in the class)

Then each person will be refunded an amount

refund = (points earned) x (value per point).

We will give you this refund on the last day of class.

IMPORTANT: Please let Professor Andreoni know if paying this lab fee presents a burden, and we can make special arrangements for you.  I do not want this lab fee to prevent anyone from taking the class.
